According to a recent sleep study at the University of Harvard, alcohol consumption within several hours of bedtime appeared to disrupt sleep and cause a person to awaken several hours into the sleep process and have problems returning to sleep without difficulty; this sleep disruption can lead to daytime fatigue and drowsiness.

Alcoholics cannot control their drinking habits and will often drink compulsively. Even when an alcoholic attempts to have only one or two drinks, they will typically find it impossible to stop and will wind up drinking much more than they anticipated.
Six in 10 U.S. adults were current drinkers in 1999-2001 and about 1 in 4 were lifetime abstainers. Nearly one-third of adults were classified as light drinkers (3 or fewer drinks per week).
