What do you mean by heavy drinking? For men, heavy drinking is typically defined as consuming an average of more than 2 drinks per day. For women, heavy drinking is typically defined as consuming an average of more than 1 drink per day.
Research shows that children who have older brothers or sisters who smoke and consume alcohol are three to five times more likely to use tobacco and alcohol, because siblings are a more powerful role model than friends or parents.
The Task Force on Community Preventive Services also recommends enhanced enforcement of laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol to minors to reduce such sales.
